ELDKONEN

A contemplative, second year project aimed toward IKEA. The result of which was sparked by research into trend predictions and a lack of substantial fire containing products within IKEA’s outdoor range, Eldkonen provides a contemporary solution to one of mans most basic links to nature - fire.

Rather than seeking to imitate organic forms as a means to push outdoor living, Eldkonen is comprised of largely geometric shapes and perpendicular planes which are united under a gently tapering cone. Its aesthetic is not one that seeks to embody the natural world but one that emphasises it. 

To fully utilise the communal connotations around building and enjoying a fire, Eldkonen posses a shallow cone as the fires vessel. A form which radiates heat and light  evenly, outwards, allowing the fire to be appreciated from any angle, with no particular prime spot.

Eldkonen is available in three different versions to ensure the design is accessible to all of IKEA’s expansive target market. With the frame consistently satin black throughout all three options, the customer can choose a matching black cone, a Corten cone or stainless steel.  Although the cone itself would arrive to the customer fully formed, the frame is completely Ready-To-Assemble.
